The ScrumMaster is a leader, specifically a servant leader. As a leader they may use a variety of skills, including management skills, to affect a desired outcome.
The various ‘stances’ that a Scrum Master typically applies — trainer, consultant, mentor, facilitator, and coach, doesn’t include “manager”. While knowledge of management skills, techniques, and tools would be appropriate for a ScrumMaster to be experience/familiar with, a good ScrumMaster would look for approaches to enable the team with these skills.
