What is the role of the Product Owner for sprint planning?
Sprint planning is the first event within a Sprint that happens on the first day of the Sprint. It has 3 topics: Why, What and How. The “Why” helps the Scrum team to define a Sprint Goal collaboratively. The “What” is to help Developers to come up with forecast of the items for the Sprint. The “How” helps the Developers to plan the items forecasted. Throughout the Sprint planning there may be back and forth discussions and scope negotiations possible so I recommend to have Product owner to be there for the entire duration to make it effective and to help the Developers in providing inputs. I will make sure as a practicing product owner I attend the Sprint planning for the entire duration by adjusting my other works accordingly.
