Should the product owner be from the customer side or vendor side?
It does not matter as long as the Product owner is truly part of the Scrum Team. However, my opinion is, if the Product owner is from the customer side, he/she has a better understanding of the business of customer, he may hold a designation in the organization so he/she can use the power when it is required to make decisions, he/she may have better network in the organization to influence and negotiate when required. If the customer side there is no person who can be a Product owner then the product owner can be from vendor side also. That is why the Product owner is called as a customer representative.
